Having difficulty choosing the best door lock?
To help you identify the best door lock available we have outlined a few here. Mortise A mortise lock is a lock that requires to be inserted into a hole or slot in a piece of wood (mortise). A mortise lock is the best door lock for external doors as it is a strong difficult lock to force open either by picking, drilling manipulation or hacksaw giving resistance to intruders. We recommended that 5 lever dead locks are used for external doors and the 3 lever dead lock is used on internal doors only. Insurance companies insist on mortise locks, conforming to British Standard 3621/80. Rim Locks A Rim Lock is a locking system that attaches to the surface of the door, usually used in conjunction with a dead lock. Ideal for front doors as they once opened with a key they posses a latch that can be held open if the snib is pushed up and also locked shut if the snib is pushed down. Cylinders A cylinder lock is a lock which is externally a round piece of metal with the cylinder passing through the door. Usually used in conjunction with mortise locks, this is suitable for front or external doors. Cylinder locks have a common key system i.e. it allows a master key to unlock all the locks, other keys can be made which only open some of the locks. This is especially useful in commercial premises. Here is just a small selection of locks available, for advise on finding the best door lock for your situation please do not hesitate to call us.
